Kota Kinabalu, 7 January 2021 – Former Moyog Assemblyman Terrence Siambun statement today objecting to the construction of the Kaiduan Dam as announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin recently is nothing more than just empty political rhetoric aimed at fooling and riling the emotions of voters in the constituency.
As much as we sympathise with the plight of Ulu Papar folks, in this instance we feel compelled to call Terrence out for trying to exploit the issue for nothing more than just cheap political mileage. We still remember when Warisan was an upstart, they rode the Kaiduan Dam issue because it was a hot issue and highly contentious.
Like any good predatory conmen, they could sniff out where the fresh meat was and what issue to use as a platform to garner popular support and they embedded themselves as a champion for the villagers. And when they won, what did they do?
They simply rebranded the dam and throw it to their neighbour and voila, all promises achieved on paper.
Despite objection by the Task Force against Kaiduan Dam (Takad) that the new rebranded Kaiduan Dam, then known as Papar Dam would still affect their community because the new Dam would still destroy the same river, only now the Dam was placed in the boundary of another constituency.
They ignored all the objections made on Papar Dam.
The fervour that the new Warisan government went to “sprint” start the new project suggest that the concerns raised by the previous administration was real. For why would they go and approve the new project so expeditiously if it not because the ‘shortage’ of water supply as projected by the previous administration was true and imminent.
Suffice to say, environmental concerns are far from Warisan’s mind in this matter. Terrence and his faux bunch of so call champions should just retire into the shadows and retreat to a monastery somewhere.
Enough is enough, Penampang folks have grown tired of being used as their political fodder.
